Bermuda Dining: Eat Like a Local!

When you visit a new place, it is fun to not only indulge in all the tourist activities, but to also learn a bit about local life. While our Bermuda Resort boasts 4 fabulous onsite restaurants, many of our guests like to go off-property to visit some of the dining spots favored by locals. If you want to Eat Like a Local during your visit, then here are a few of the Bermuda Restaurants to try.

Bouchee Restaurant - Codfish Breakfast
In the early days of Bermuda, settlers salted their cod to make it last. From that was born this traditional Bermuda breakfast. The plate is heaping with salted cod, potatoes, boiled eggs, and avocado. Many restaurants serve this local favorite, and Bouchee Restaurant is known for serving one of the best codfish breakfasts on Bermuda!

The Hog Penny – Fish Chowder
Fish chowder isn’t, of course, exclusive to Bermuda, but it is a dish that locals love. The Bermuda version is spicy, and locals tend to add a bit of Black Seal Rum to their chowder to add even more kick. The filling dish is great for lunch or dinner, and The Hog Penny serves some of Bermuda’s best.

Tribe Road Kitchen and Art Mel’s – Fish Sandwich
In most parts of the world if you order a sandwich, the next question would be “What kind?” Not so here! A sandwich means one thing to most locals: crunchy fried fish. There are several spots where you can find this sandwich, which is served with cole slaw and cheese on raisin bread, but Art Mel’s and Tribe Road Kitchen’s versions are at the top of the list.

Drink Like a Local
Rum. Not just any rum. Gosling’s Black Seal Rum. It’s as much a part of Bermuda’s local food scene as anything listed above. It’s not just for drinking. The rum is also used to make delicious rum cakes. Bring some back home, so your family and friends can also eat like a local! Pick up a cake or ten at the Bermuda Rum Cake Company or The Dockyards.
